Harrison Hall (1785–1866), publisher and author, spent his youth variously in Philadelphia, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and in Lamberton, New Jersey. He was a nongraduate member of the University of Pennsylvania class of 1803, and by 1812 he was a partner in the Philadelphia firm of Capp & Hall. In 1813 Hall authored a work on distilling. From 1816 to 1827 he and his brother John E. Hall were publisher and editor respectively of the Port Folio magazine in Philadelphia. During his long career in printing, Hall published the literary works of numerous members of his family. He also ran a bookstore and subsequently worked as a stationer and a surveyor. Hall moved to Cincinnati in 1865 and died there (Randolph C. Randall, James Hall: Spokesman of the New West [1964]; Will J.
