Sir

I take the liberty in consequence of our conversation of yesterday evening with two Gentlement of the Council, commissaries in the Business of our claim to the Regency, to request your Excellency that you’ll be so kind to come at my house this morning at eleven o Clock, where you’ll also find Mr. Willink, and when we’ll communicate to your Excellency the proposals of said two members of the council, and perhaps be desired to have an enterview with them at the Stadhouse.1 I beg to let me know in answer wether I shall have the honour to receive your Exce. at the stipulated hour, at my house, near the Beulingstraat, and am with much respect / Sir / Your most obedt. 1. JA arrived at The Hague on Sunday, 12 Jan., and on Wednesday the 15th went to Amsterdam to meet with the bankers (JQA to Peter Jay Munro, 16 Jan., NNMus). The possibility of turning to the Regency of Amsterdam for assistance with the financial crisis facing the United States had been raised in the consortium’s letter of 23 Dec. 1783 and that of 26 Dec. from Nicolaas & Jacob van Staphorst, both above. JA presumably met with the agents of the regency but to no avail, as he indicates in his 24 Jan. 1784 letter to Benjamin Franklin, below.
