To John Jay from Frederick Jay, 19 October 1776

From Frederick Jay

Harrisons Purchase 19th Octr. [17]76

Dear John:

Papa has directed me to have all the Stock removed from Rye to the Fish Kills—1 at foot you have a list of those now sent. He intends to sett off this Day or to-morrow with Mama & Nancey & some of the Servants—the rest will sett off in a day or two—He thinks it best for me to stay & remove every thing—I could wish you were here to go with them. Jos. Purdy Senr. has partly engaged to go—if he does not I shall attend them—They mean to take the Crompond Road; if you could meet them it would be a satisfaction—Endeavor to provide provender for the Cattle &ct, this Winter if you could any ways send the Waggon down it would assist me greatly—No Carts to be had at this present time they being all engaged in the service.—I wish Papa had taken my advice & moved by water when you first hired the place—it would have saved both trouble & expense—When ^the^ things are all moved Peter will go up—I shall take care of myself—I imagine you’l be full—I am in great haste, Yours &ct
