To John Jay from William Jay, 26 July 1816

From William Jay

New York 26 July 1816

My dear Father

We returned from Rockaway last Monday. My own & the Children’s health is perfectly good; Augusta’s health is also improved, & her strength greatly increased. She has just returned from a very long walk, without being fatigued. We left Mary with John & Helen at Rockaway. We are both anxious my dear Father to return to Bedford; but as we are to go by the way of Sing Sing, it was necessary to write to you before we left Town, in order that you might know when to send the Waggon for us. My Pamphlet which is much larger than I had at first intended to make it, is now in the press; & I am anxious to correct the proof sheets myself.1 It will be published the latter part of the next week, & I am induced to wait a few days on that account. Should nothing unforseen prevent us we shall leave Town on Saturday of next week, the 3rd: of August, at 9 o clock in the Morning for ^in the^ Steam Boat, for Sing Sing. Will you be so good as to let the Waggon meet us there. We shall have too much baggage for the Coachee. Augusta thanks you for your kind letter, & unites with me in begging to be affectionately remembered to Maria Nancy & Sally. I am obliged to you for you attention in letting me know the state of my affairs at the Mill. I remain my dear Father Your very affecte: & dutiful Son,

William Jay
