Greene apparently changed the day of the month in the dateline from “31” to “30” by writing a zero over the “1.” Samuel Blachley Webb docketed the letter “Genl Greens Report Long-Island. 31st July 1776.” However, the number of recently arrived vessels at Sandy Hook that GW reports in his letter to Hancock of 30 July seems to be based on this letter and Greene’s letter to GW of 29 July, indicating that Greene wrote this letter on 30 July.
