Most of these notes and calculations were apparently made in 1776, either for or following the Bill for Raising Six Battalions of Infantry (q.v. under date of 28 Oct. 1776). To them, however, TJ added returns of Virginia troops in the fall of 1779; see Returns entered under date of 4 Nov. 1779, above.
