1. John Kirkpatrick reported on 17 Sept. that William Ramsay had recently returned to Alexandria from Williamsburg with news that he had secured a contract to supply provisions to the Virginia forces in Hampshire and Frederick counties, a decided turnabout in Ramsay’s fortunes (see Ramsay to GW, 30 July 1757). Dinwiddie wrote Andrew Lewis, 19 Sept. 1757, that he had “agreed for supply of the forces at Winchester &ca but have no Proposal as yet for Augusta” (ViHi: Dinwiddie Papers). For the text of the contract between Ramsay and Dinwiddie, see Articles of Agreement, 21 Oct. 1757, printed as an enclosure in Dinwiddie to GW, 24 Oct. 1757.
