AD, General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 58.

In 1757 GW bought two tracts of land adjoining Mount Vernon from Sampson Darrell. See George Johnston to GW, 8 Jan. 1760, n.2. John Gist was renting a part of the Darrell tract along Dogue Run and his mother Ann Gist was living there.

Dixon’s warehouse, at Falmouth, in King George County, was one of the warehouses appointed for the inspection of tobacco.

The amount paid by Posey is given in Maryland currency.

Sarah Harrison Manley (d. 1785) was the widow of John Manley (died c.1750) who owned land both on the eastern side of Belvoir Neck and across Dogue Run on the Mount Vernon side.

R. Scott may be Robert Scott of Prince William County. Clifton is William Clifton.

Samuel Washington (1734–1781) was the eldest of GW’s three younger brothers.

In August 1759 GW charged his brother John Augustine Washington’s account £1.8 “for 8 Bushls Rye” (General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 9).

Going Lanphier, a carpenter and housebuilder from Alexandria, worked on GW’s house at Mount Vernon when it was enlarged and improved in 1759 and again in 1774–75 (Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 3:246).

Elizabeth Dent seems to have lived at Belvoir and had on occasion made shirts for GW. See George William Fairfax to GW, 5 Aug. 1758. A Thomas Dent worked for George William Fairfax, possibly as an overseer or manager.
