2. John Stadler served as music teacher at Mount Vernon for several years. See Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 2:40, and Guardian Accounts, 11 April 1767, 5 May 1769, and 1 May 1771. The amount is in Maryland currency.
