General Orders
Head-Quarters W. Plains Thursday Septr 3rd 1778.
Parole Languedoc—C. Signs Leech. Ludlow.
The troop to beat at 7 ôClock and the Guards to be on the Grand Parade at 8 in the morning ’till further orders—All the Drums and Fifes of the Right Wing, Second Line and Left Wing to attend the Parade in Rotation; Those of the Right Wing tomorrow.
The Inspector of Music will daily attend the Parade.

On this date GW’s aide-de-camp Tench Tilghman wrote to Assistant Commissary General of Purchases Royal Flint: “The uncertainty of the operations of the enemy renders it necessary that we should be prepared to move either up the North River or to the Eastward as may be necessary. You have already established Magazines of Bread upon the communication between this and Fishkills, and His Excellency desires that you may immediately establish others between this and providence upon the upper and lower Road, those upon the lower, as far from the sound as convenience will admit. The Quantities need not be great, only sufficient to support the Army upon the march and untill supplies can be brought forward” (DLC:GW).
Tilghman also wrote a letter directed to Robert Erskine (Tilghman wrote “William Erskine”) or William Scull of the army’s geography department: “His Excellency desires that you will permit General Wayne to take a Copy of the surveys that you have already made, and of your additions” (PHi: Wayne Papers).
