Manuscript in Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, Calif. description ends GW adds to this entry: “By Mr Fitzgeralds acct allow’d in recg the above Sum—23.6.0.”

6For GW’s Chattins Run land, see Bryan Fairfax to GW, 20 Jan. 1772, n.1, and 3 Aug. 1772, n.4. Robert Ashby lived nearby at Yew Hill in Fauquier County. Benjamin Ashby served as a junior officer in the 11th, later designated the 7th, Virginia Regiment, throughout most of the Revolution.
