ALS (facsimile), James Lowe Autographs, Catalog 25 (1983), item 179. According to an earlier sale notice, GW franked the cover of this letter and addressed it to Lewis “or in case of his absence To—Mrs. Becky [Betty?] Lewis near Fredericksbourgh. Recommd to the care of the Post master at that place” (The Collector, no. 9–12 [1969], item C390).

1See GW to Robert Lewis, 26 June; GW’s letters to Howell Lewis and Betty Washington Lewis have not been found.
