Dr Sir
As the North Carolina Troops have orders to march immediately to the Southward,1 you will be pleased to direct the Company of Artillery belonging to that State to hold themselves in readiness to move with them2—their route will hereafter be made known—And with respect to their pieces you will suffer them to carry them or not, as you see proper. 1. GW learned on the evening of 17 Nov. that Congress had designated the North Carolina brigade for service in the southern department (see Samuel Huntington to GW, 11 Nov., and n.3 to that document, and GW to Huntington, 20 Nov.).
