Sir

Confiding in the native generosity of your heart I once more take the liberty to send you a few lines with a copy of one of my recent publications (in boards) Which I most humbly present to your excllency as a Small token of my accumulating admiration Veneration & esteem. The omnicient is my witness that of all great Men in the World none do I esteem (nor none did I ever venerate) More & Whose present & future happiness do I more earnestly desire to be advanced than yours. I also Send you a pamplet relative to the Female Hospitable Society” The amiable Ladies Who compose that godlike Society Will with the Most gratefull acknowledgments receive the Smallest donation from you. Could you See the unspeakable distress of the poor in this city Your Very heart Would almost Weep blood. Should You in the plenitude of your liberality Condescend to grant My humble and most earnest intreties in behalfe of the Children of Misfortune (not Myselfe) you can Send your contribution to Some of your freinds here Who can examine the respectibitey & intigrity of the Society before they give your donation. all the favour I request is, that you Would do me the justice to believe me to be yours in the bonds of admiration & esteem

NB Were it not for the trouble it would give your excellency I would humbly intreat you to Solecit— Mr. Madison & those of your friends in Washington Whom You Know to be humane & benevolent persons Surely not only the public but the god of Nature would smile upon the Godlike deed and your subordinate officers With such a glorious potion could not resist the eloquence of your liberality. I Know there are many calls upon your bounty Yet as this is the first and I intend it to be the last Contribution I have or willrequested—(& not for myselfe I have nothing to do with its distribution) pray do not refuse me. I have tho’ I can ill afford it published 500 of the enclosed pamplets gratis & disemmenated them in order to Stimulate the humane to grant the favour I ask you to grant
