I had the pleasure of your letter of the 27th ultimo, and should have acknowleged it sooner, had I not been pressed with a variety of business.1
When you receive the commands of Congress, I shall be happy to see you at Camp, and am Dr sir Your most obedient and hble servt.

1. Howe’s letter to GW of 27 April, dated at Philadelphia, reads: “I have the honour to inform your Excellency that I arrived in this City late Yesterday, and that I shall repair to Camp the Moment I am permitted to do so by Congress, with whom I have Business. I should be happy to receive your Commands, which it will ever be my pleasure to obey” (DLC:GW). Col. Richard Varick wrote to Philip Schuyler on 18 May that Howe had arrived in camp on 15 May (NN: Philip Schuyler Papers).
