The bearer Mr. Parry Hall wishes to reprint your notes on the state of Virginia. He is One of our most correct printers, and a worthy man. Should you incline to add any thing to the work, or to make any Alterations in it, he will gladly obey your instructions. From Dr Sir Yours sincerely

Hall, a printer, bookseller, and stationer at 149 Chesnut Street, Philadelphia, did not publish an edition of TJ’s notes on the state of Virginia, although he went so far as to print a proof sheet (James Hardie, The Philadelphia Directory and Register [Philadelphia, 1793], 58; Hall to TJ, 25 July 1793). The next edition of this work was published in Philadelphia by Mathew Carey in 1794 (Coolie Verner, “Some Observations on the Philadelphia 1794 Edition of Jefferson’s Notes,” Studies in Bibliography, ii [1949–50], 201–4).
