Head Quarters Middle Brook [N.J.] 13th December 1778

In consequence of your favr of the 5th1 I shall take the first opportunity that offers of ordering Israel Dodge to Fort Pitt and shall direct him to call at Philada on his way.2
Mr Hoogland Adjt of Sheldons Regt of Dragoons is employed by the Colonel to provide the Regimental Cloathing for the ensuing Year. He goes to Pennsylvania as the most likely place of procuring leather Breeches for which I must desire the Board to give him a Credit upon the Makers.3 As it will be more convenient to draw their Cloth Cloathing from the Eastern department, be pleased to give directions to Messs Otis and Andrews to furnish the necessary quantity agreeable to the Regimental Returns, which will be furnished by the Adjt. I am Sir Yr most obt Servt.

3. Jeronimus Hoogland (1757–1788) of Westchester County, N.Y., was appointed lieutenant and adjutant of Col. John Lasher’s New York Militia Regiment in June 1776 and served with the 2d Continental Dragoons in the same capacity from October 1777. He was later promoted to captain, with a commission dating from November 1778, and remained with the 2d Continental Dragoons until the end of the war. Hoogland was a prisoner of the British from August 1776 to January 1777, and apparently served another term of imprisonment from September 1779 to March 1780.
