To George Washington from the Arundel Committee of Correspondence, 24 October 1775

From the Arundel Committee of Correspondence

Arundel [District of Maine] 24 October 1775. “In Pursuance of a Resolve of the General Assembly of this Colony,”1 the committee of correspondence returns “the Names of the following Persons as having been unnecessarily absent from their respective Companies.” Alexander Inglish and John Miller of “Captain Dormain’s Company” in Col. Scammans’s regiment2 and Benjamin Goodwin, Jr., Trustram Hooper, Israel Wakefield, and Silas Abbot of Capt. James Hubbard’s company in Col. Doolittle’s regiment.3

2. Jesse Dorman (1718–1802) commanded a company in Col. James Scammans’s Massachusetts regiment during 1775.

3. Edmund Randolph replied to the Arundel committee of correspondence on 30 Oct., saying that GW “cannot but esteem this Information, as a Proof of your Attachment to the general Interest & common Cause” (DLC:GW).
