Thursday August 26th 79.
Parole Sobieski— C. Signs Soliman Savoy.
Brigade returns to be made immediately to the Orderly-Office of the actual deficiencies of clothing.
Agreeable to the order of the 10th instant it is determined by lot that Colonel Lamb’s regiment have the precedency of Colonel Cranes.1

1. A letter to GW from Col. John Lamb and Lt. Col. John Popkin, dated this date at West Point, reads: “Agreable to your Excellencys Genl order we the subscribers have in the presence of Brigadier General Knox drawn lots for the precedency of the battalion of Artillery commanded by us, which lot has determined Colo. Lambs to have the precedency of Colonel Crane.” Brig. Gen. Henry Knox added and signed the following note on the document below Lamb’s and Popkin’s signatures: “I hereby certify that the above lots were drawn agreable to his Excellency General Washingtons order” (LS, DLC:GW).
