From Ignatius Palyart

Philadelphia, 5 Oct. 1790. Has received a commission from the queen appointing him consul general to the United States for Portugal; asks instructions for having his appointment acknowledged.

RC (DNA: RG 59, CD); endorsed by TJ as received 2 Nov. 1790 and so recorded in SJL. An attested copy of the commission in Spanish, signed for Queen Maria by the foreign minister, Luis Pinto de Souza, dated 12 June 1790, is also in RG 59, CD, accompanied by an English translation.
