3In Gérard de Rayneval’s hand. The copy is misdated July 3.

4For Wharton’s effects see our annotation of Vergennes to BF, July 18. The enclosure to the present letter must be Sartine’s of July 26 to Vergennes, of which there is a copy at the Library of Congress. Sartine reported that the officers of the Admiralty of Dieppe had informed him that all the papers and effects had been sent on June 6 to S. Burthon, and Wharton should address himself to him. Burthon was Burton, captain of the ship: XXIX, 575.
