2. For Bingham’s authorization to draw on the commissioners see BF to Lovell on July 22. During the remainder of 1778 there are four similar letters in French from Bingham (APS): Aug. 6 for 2,666 l.t., 13 s., 4 d., payable to de Moriac, merchant at Bordeaux; Aug. 10 for 15,000 l.t., payable to Jh. François Majastre of Marseilles; Sept. 1 for 2,200 l.t., payable to [William?] Lee, and Sept. 17 for 22,705 l.t., 17 s., payable to Les Cousins Pascal, merchants at Marseilles. These are the first extant letters from Bingham not written in English. At the APS are also two lists sent by Bingham on Aug. 26 and Sept. 6 of “sundry Setts of Exchange” drawn by him. On the back of the latter BF wrote “Recd. Nov. 18. 1778. Had accepted before
