Mr Grenville presents his Compliments to Mr Franklin, and will certainly do himself the honour of waiting upon Mr Franklin tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.

7. Who had just arrived in France bearing Fox’s May 1 letter of introduction, above. Oswald introduced him to BF who, finding that he had not first called on Vergennes, sent word to the minister (May 8, above). Vergennes’ answer, setting an appointment for the following day, arrived at 9:00 P.M. The present letter is Grenville’s answer to BF’s now-missing note inviting him to have breakfast at Passy before traveling to Versailles. BF relates these events, as well as his initial conversation with Grenville, in his journal of the peace negotiations.
