Mr. Hamilton presents his Compliments to Mr. Webster requests the favour of him to strike off & send him in the course of the day thirty Copies of the Inclosed Letter, with his account of the Cost.

1. Webster, the famous lexicographer, was a native of Connecticut and a graduate of Yale. He lived in New York in 1787 and 1788, and in these years he founded and edited the American Magazine. In 1793 he returned to New York and remained there until 1798. During his second stay in the city he founded The American Minerva, Patroness of Peace, Commerce, and the Liberal Arts, a daily paper, and The Herald; a Gazette for the Country, a semiweekly. In 1796, after several changes in title, the first of these papers was renamed The Minerva, and in 1797 the second was renamed The Spectator.
