I have the honor of enclosing to you certain resolutions concerning our foreign relations and also an Address to you, expressive of the high sense of gratitude the Representatives of your Native State, entertain for those Services which you have so long been in the habit of discharging with so much honor to your Self and benefits to your Country It will add very Little to your public Honors or private satisfaction that I shou’d tell you how much I approve of this evidence given of the true value your Country puts on those exertions which have render’d you the Admiration of the good and Enlighten’d part of Mankind, while they have brought down the Envy and Malice of those of a contrary Character. That you may yet live happy in your retirement until old Age shall render Life no long desireable is the true and ardent Prayer of yr most obt. Servant and Fellow Citizen.
