1Prince’s 8 Feb. 1813 letter to Bacon (1 p.) described John Appleton, “a native of Boston, and lately consul at Calaise,” as a man “of Sterling integrity, of political information; a firm and undeviating republican, warmly attached to the Constitution and Government of his Country, and a zealous Supporter of the national administration.” Prince stated that Appleton desired a position amidst the “busy Scenes” of commerce, “in which he would be useful to his Country.”
