The enclosed Letter from James Prince Esqr. Marshall of the District of Massachusetts a Gentleman of correct & honorable Character will sufficiently explain it’s object.1
From his representations I can have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Appleton to whom it relates to your favorable regard & attention. With much respect I have the honor to be your Obedt. servt.

1. Prince’s 8 Feb. 1813 letter to Bacon (1 p.) described John Appleton, “a native of Boston, and lately consul at Calaise,” as a man “of Sterling integrity, of political information; a firm and undeviating republican, warmly attached to the Constitution and Government of his Country, and a zealous Supporter of the national administration.” Prince stated that Appleton desired a position amidst the “busy Scenes” of commerce, “in which he would be useful to his Country.”
