Motion on the Virginia Resolutions of 1798
[23 December 1799]
Mr. Madison moved, that the committee of the whole should be discharged from further proceedings upon certain answers from several of the states, relative to the communications made by the Virginia legislature at their last session; and that the same should be referred to a special committee of seven.
Richmond Va. Argus, 27 Dec. 1799. The House appointed a committee made up of JM, John Taylor, William Branch Giles, George Keith Taylor, John Wise, John Mercer, and William Daniel to take up the business. The next day JM reported to the House on behalf of the committee. The report was made the order of the day for 2 Jan. 1800, and the public printer was ordered to publish two hundred and fifty copies for the use of the members of the House ( , Dec. 1799 [ 38954], pp. 38, 40; see The Report of 1800, 7 Jan. 1800).
