[Philadelphia] Friday ’2 Oclock [24 February 1792]1
The President desires Mr Jefferson will give the enclosed Papers an attentive perusal, & return them to him as soon as he has done it; that Colo. Hamilton may have an opportunity of doing it also. At 10 ’oclock tomorrow the P——will speak with the heads of departments upon the subject of them and requests their attendance accordingly.2

The enclosures have not been positively identified, but they may have included documents concerning American relations with the Creek and Six Nations (see Henry Knox to Tobias Lear, 17 Feb., n.1, Knox to GW, 18 Feb., n.1, and GW to Knox, 25 Feb., n.1). After Jefferson returned the papers, GW had Lear send them to Alexander Hamilton, who wrote GW on 24 Feb.: “The Secretary of the Treasury has the honor to return the President the papers received from Mr Lear, which he has carefully perused, and will wait on the President tomorrow at ten o’ Clock accordingly” (DLC:GW). No further reference to this meeting of 25 Feb. between GW and his heads of departments has been found.
