1The letter from James Wilkinson to Henry Knox of 12 Feb. has not been identified. According to GW’s executive journal, this letter and the fourteen accompanying enclosures contained information on conditions at Fort Washington, including the recent arrival of “Stores & Cloathing” and problems with defective rifles. Wilkinson also expressed his desire to launch an attack against the Indians along the Maumee River (JPP, description begins Dorothy Twohig, ed. The Journal of the Proceedings of the President, 1793–1797. Charlottesville, Va., 1981. description ends 103). William Blount’s letter to Henry Knox concerned British agent John McKee’s interference with the Cherokee and enclosed a “list of [Indian] depredations” compiled by Gen. James Robertson. For the complete text of this letter, see Carter, Territorial Papers, description begins Clarence Edwin Carter et al., eds. The Territorial Papers of the United States. 27 vols. Washington, D.C., 1934–69. description ends 4:239. For the enclosure, see ASP, Indian Affairs, description begins Walter Lowrie et al., eds. American State Papers. Documents, Legislative and Executive, of the Congress of the United States. 38 vols. Washington, D.C., Gales and Seaton, 1832–61. description ends 1:436.
