Treasury Depart: 4th May—93
The Secretary of the Treasury respectfully communicates to The President of the United States a letter of the 28th of April received yesterday from the Commissioner of the Revenue.1 In the early part of the ensuing week he will have the honor of waiting upon the President to submit his ideas on the several points raised, & take the President’s orders thereupon.2

2. On 6 May, GW met with Hamilton and other cabinet members to discuss the sinking fund and neutrality issues involving the war in Europe (Jefferson’s Notes on Conversations, 6–12 May). Coxe, Hamilton, and Thomas Jefferson also corresponded during early May about the issuance of passports to ensure the safety of American-owned foreign ships (Jefferson to GW, 4 May [second letter], n.1).
