GW’s expenses for this date included £3.4 “To Cash pd the Band of Musick,” presumably for the musicians who had entertained French minister La Luzerne and his entourage on their visit to headquarters, which ended on this date (Revolutionary War Household Expenses, 1776–1780, DLC:GW, Ser. 5; see also Substance of a Conference with La Luzerne, 16 Sept.).

GW’s warrant book entries for this date included $106.60 “To Lt [John] Hewell [Hiwell] Inspector of Musick” (Revolutionary War Warrant Book 4, 1779–1780, DLC:GW, Ser. 5).
