[Philadelphia] 11th June 1793.
The Secretary of the Treasury presents his respects to the President, sends him for consideration, two letters on the subject of a proper site for a Custom House, on the New York side of Lake Champlain. The Secretary will have the honor of waiting on the President in a day or two to submit whatever further may occur & take his orders.1

1. The enclosed letters to Hamilton from Stephen Keyes, the collector and inspector at the port of Alburg, Vt., and Melancthon Lloyd Woolsey, the collector for the District of Champlain, N.Y., have not been identified. Both men recommended “Cumberland Head as the most proper place to establish the port of Entry to be fixed on Lake Champlain.” On 13 June, GW returned these letters to Hamilton “and informed him of my approving of Cumbe[r]land Head for this Port.” He asked Hamilton to draw up the “proper notification,” which GW signed on 19 June (, 169–71, 182). This document has not been found.
