Having many reasons for wishing an interview with you at this meeting we cannot but express our regret at the Circumstances which have prevented it.
We have the pleasure to inform you that it will be in our power from the Arrangements we have made with Mr Peter, the Proprietor of the Square on which your lots lie to accomodate you agreeably to your desire with the whole Square.1
The indisposition of Mr Johnsons family prevents his meeting us at present; as there are many matters which require the consideration of a full board in a short time we have fixed on the 20th of this month for that purpose. we are with great respect Your obedt Servts

1. GW had discussed his wishes about his purchase of lots in square 21 in his letter to the commissioners of 1 June. The commissioners completed the transaction with Robert Peter on 11 May 1795, and he executed a deed to GW for lots 2 and 3 on that date (Indenture with Robert Peter, 11 May 1795, NjMoHP; Commissioners to GW, 15 May 1795, DNA: RG 42, Records of the Commissioners for the District of Columbia, Letters Sent, 1791-1802; and Commissioners to Peter, 17 April and 7, 8, and 9 May 1795, DNA: RG 42, Records of the Commissioners for the District of Columbia, Letters Sent, 1791-1802). In GW’s will he bequeathed "my entire Square, number twenty one, in the City of Washington" to George Washington Parke Custis (, 4:489).
