From Thomas Jefferson

[Philadelphia] Oct. 29. 1792.

The Secretary of State has had under consideration the Report of the proceedings of the Secretary of the Territory of the U.S. North West of the Ohio in the absence of the Governor from January the 1st to June 30th 1792. and

Reports to the President of the United States that there is nothing contained therein which requires any thing to be done on the part of the President of the United States.1

1. Tobias Lear had sent this report to Jefferson on 28 Oct., acknowledging that it had been “received by the President yesterday” and conveying the president’s request “that, if the Secretary of State should, in perusing the enclosed, find anything which requires the agency or particular notice of the President, he would report the same” (DNA: RG 59, Miscellaneous Letters). The report, which is in Carter, Territorial Papers, description begins Clarence Edwin Carter et al., eds. The Territorial Papers of the United States. 27 vols. Washington, D.C., 1934–69. description ends 3:360–80, originally accompanied Winthrop Sargent’s letter to GW of 6 July 1792.
