Th: Jefferson has the honor to inclose to the President some letters brought by the Rider yesterday afternoon, & which he found on his return home in the night.1

1. According to GW’s journal, these enclosures were letters “From Thos. Pinckney Esqr. of the 25 Sept. 93,” regarding Pinckney’s efforts to secure the release of Lafayette and the conditions of Lafayette’s imprisonment; “from Ditto—27 Septr.—enclosing duplicate of one of 25th,” about British capture of vessels, copper for the Mint, and the ship Laurens of Charleston seized by a French privateer; and “from Rob. Morris, Dist. Attorney for New Jersey, dated 25 Nov. 93,” about the case of Clarkson Freeman ( , 259–60). For those letters, see , 27:149–51, 158, 439–43.
