Henry Knox to Bartholomew Dandridge, Jr.
October 30. 1794
Dear Sir
Be pleased to Submit to the President of the United States the enclosed letter from Genl Blount, of the 2d instant, containing the account of the destruction of two of the lower cherokee Towns.1 I am Yours respectfully

ALS, DLC:GW.
1. William Blount’s letter to Knox of 2 Oct. enclosed a copy of James Ore’s letter to Blount of 24 Sept., which described the destruction of the Cherokee towns of Nickajack and Running Water. Blount assured Knox that he had not ordered the destruction, that Cherokees were guilty of depredations in the Mero District, and that “Hanging Maw, and his party on the Tennessee, discover no displeasure at the destruction” (, 1:633–34; for Ore’s letter, see p. 632 of the same volume). , Indian Affairs
