Sir

I have the Honour to enclose you a Resolve of Congress relative to providing proper Means for the speedy Communication of Intelligence.1 The Board have it not in their Power to provide suitable Persons for the Purpose or they would not lessen the Number of Combatants in the Army, but are obliged to request your Excellency to appoint a sufficient Number of Expresses out of either Blands or Sheldon’s Regt of Horse & to carry into Execution the Resolve of Congress with all convenient Speed. I have the Honour to be with the greatest Respect your very obedt Servt

1. The enclosed resolution of this date requests GW “to appoint a proper person at head-quarters to write to the president twice a day or oftner, if necessary, advising the position & movements of the armies; and that the board of war appoint proper expresses for conveying the said letters with the utmost expedition” (DLC:GW; see also JCC description begins Worthington Chauncey Ford et al., eds. Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789. 34 vols. Washington, D.C., 1904–37. description ends , 8:726–27). GW apparently assigned Robert Hanson Harrison the responsibility of sending intelligence to Hancock.
