The Secretary of War respectfully lays before the President of the United States the accompanying letters & papers received lately from Govr Blount & Mr Seagrove—the latter yesterday.1

1. Pickering may have enclosed a copy of Southwest Territory governor William Blount’s letter to him of 2 Nov., which, in part, reported that “Peace now actually exists between the United States and the Indian tribes” and recommended “the establishment of strong military posts” to preserve that peace (extract, ASP, Military Affairs, 1:112). The other enclosures have not been identified.
