1. The letter from James Wilkinson to Henry Knox of 12 Feb. has not been identified. According to GW’s executive journal, this letter and the fourteen accompanying enclosures contained information on conditions at Fort Washington, including the recent arrival of “Stores & Cloathing” and problems with defective rifles. Wilkinson also expressed his desire to launch an attack against the Indians along the Maumee River ( 103). William Blount’s letter to Henry Knox concerned British agent John McKee’s interference with the Cherokee and enclosed a “list of [Indian] depredations” compiled by Gen. James Robertson. For the complete text of this letter, see 4:239. For the enclosure, see 1:436.
