Dear sir,
I send by the bearer for the use of the President of the United States, a set of the Atlantic Neptune in three volumes folio, and a volume of the West India Atlas, which I imported from the England for public service—I have only to request that your would please to sign the duplicate receipts herein enclosed.1 I am Dear sir Your humble servant

1. This letter accompanied a set of The Atlantic Neptune; Published for the Use of the Royal Navy of Great Britain (London, 1780), a maritime atlas that included charts of Nova Scotia, New England, the River and Gulf of St. Lawrence, and American waters from New York southward. Knox also sent a copy of Thomas Jefferys, The West-India Atlas (London, 1783). A copy of the latter was among the books in GW’s library inventoried at the time of his death ( 561).
