Thomas G. Watkins to Thomas Jefferson, 7 June 1821

From Thomas G. Watkins

Glenmore June 7. 1821

Dear Sir,

Inclosed agreeably to your desire I send you my acct. Some combining circumstances have induced me to decline the practice of Physic. If my humble efforts, however, have been so fortunate as to reach your approbation, insomuch as to induce a belief that I might on any future occasion be of service to you, it will add to my happiness, to be permitted to make you an exception to my general rule.

I am with the sincerest affectn And respect yr Obdt Servt

T. G Watkins

RC (MHi); endorsed by TJ as received 15 June 1821 and so recorded in SJL.

The enclosed acct. was probably TJ’s Account with Watkins, [after 20 Jan. 1821]. On 28 July 1821 TJ paid Watkins $12 to settle his “acct. to Jan. 20” (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1377).

TJ’s response of 25 June 1821, not found, is recorded in SJL.
