By the inclosed you will perceive that the troops at Rhode Island are in extreme distress for want of Flour. If a supply of that Article is not already upon the way, you will, I hope, take every measure to have it thrown in before the Roads are in a worse state than they are at present—As I have not Copies of the inclosed be pleased to take care of them & return them.2 I am Sir Yr most obt Servt

1. GW stopped at Haverstraw, N.Y., on his way to Middlebrook, N.J., which he reached on 11 December. Pvt. Elijah Fisher of GW’s guard wrote in his diary that, after resting on 30 Nov., his unit left Peekskill, N.Y., on 1 Dec. “and Crossed at King’s farrey Marched on to Col. Hazes and Encampt after Marching two and three is five miles.” On 2 Dec. he wrote: “We left Col. Hazes and after seventeen miles March we Come to Mr. Jones Baggat in Romepawe [Ramapo] and Pitcht our tents” (, 287).
