8. The Connecticut ship captain’s letter of Oct. 27 (XXVII, 652–3) described his capture on Aug. 29, only a day after he had sailed from Nantes. During his stay at Bordeaux he sought aid from John Bondfield, American agent at that port (XXIV, 403n).
