To Richard Bache: Extract7

Copy: Historical Society of Pennsylvania

Passy Dec 26 1782

Dear Son

You will hear of the progress made towards a Peace from various quarters. It is not yet concluded, and perhaps it may be some time first. But as soon as it is, I hope to be permitted to return home, there being nothing that I more desire, than to spend my last days with my family & lay my bones to rest in America.

[Note numbering follows the Franklin Papers source.]

7Written on what is presumed to be the address sheet from BF’s letter to RB of May 14, 1781. (The sheet is filed with sections of that letter, and the address, in BF’s hand, specifies that the letter is being sent by Col. Laurens. Col. John Laurens did deliver that letter to the Baches upon his return to America: XXXV, 58n, 421, 560.)
