[Philadelphia] June 22, 1792. Transmits “the Contract made with Abraham Hargis for sinking a Well for the accomodation of the Delaware Lighthouse, which has received the President’s approbation.”1

On June 25, 1792, Tench Coxe wrote to William Allibone that the President’s approval was stated as follows: “Approved June 22, 1792, with the reservation, that if all the materials mentioned … are not used in the work a proportional deduction shall be made from the sum stipulated” (LC, RG 58, Letters of Commissioner of Revenue, 1792–1793, National Archives).
