DS, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress.
1. Robinson was a builder who lived at 52 Greenwich Street, New York City.
2. This receipt is in H’s handwriting. H incorrectly wrote “1796.”
On March 7, 1797, H made the following entry in his Cash Book, 1795–1804: “John B. Church Dr. to Cash paid Robinson Carpenter for fencing his lot—Dolls. 28.63” (AD, Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress). H also noted in his “Account with John B. Church,” June 15, 1797, the equivalent payment in New York currency of eleven pounds, eleven shillings (not nine pounds, thirteen shillings, as Robinson charged in his bill), on March 7, 1797, to “Robinson Carpenter for fencing your lot.”
3. The lot to which H is referring is one of the lots which H had acquired for Church in 1796. See “Receipt from Morgan Lewis,” March 18, 1796.
