Aug. 7. 93.

Th: Jefferson has the honor to inclose to the President the draught of a letter to Mr. Genet, in pursuance of the opinion of Saturday last approved by the President.

The President this day returned the enclosed letter to TJ with a one-word note—“approved”—beneath which TJ wrote “this was the letter of Aug. 7. to Genet” (RC in DLC: TJ Papers, 91: 15667; undated; addressed: “The Secretary of State”; endorsed by TJ as received 7 Aug. 1793; recorded in SJPL under 7 Aug. 1793).
