Following his appointment as cadet, JOHN LIVINGSTON reported to the military academy at West Point, New York. In April 1803, he was made a second lieutenant in the Regiment of Artillerists and sent to Fort Nelson, near Norfolk, Virginia ( , 1:636; Dearborn to Thomas H.
