J. Ingersoll
RC (NN). Addressed by Ingersoll.
1. Possibly JM sent Ingersoll a copy of John Taylor, An Argument respecting the Constitutionality of the Carriage Tax; Which Subject Was Discussed at Richmond, in Virginia, in May, 1795 (Richmond, 1795; 29606). Taylor’s pamphlet expressed most of the arguments Virginians held against the carriage tax.
2. Ingersoll may have been referring to the treasury report of 2 Feb. 1795 (see JM to Edmund Pendleton, 7 Feb. 1796, and n. 3).
