Winchester: Wednesday, the 7th April, 1756.
Colonel Washington orders a Return to be given in immediately of the number of Recruits in Town; their arms and Clothes.1
After Orders.
A Subaltern and twenty men to parade immediately to march to Joseph Edwards’s. The Officer to see that the Party is provided well with ammunition.
Lieutenant Blagg for this Command: who will receive his Orders from the aid de camp.2

1. GW rode into Winchester on the night of 6 April, having left Williamsburg on 1 or 2 April when an express brought word of the Indian raids in Frederick and Hampshire counties.
2. See GW to John Blagg, 7 April 1756. The copy sent to Blagg may have been signed by George Mercer, GW’s aide-de-camp, but the letter-book copy does not indicate this.
